Meet Betters
A Story of Resilience and Renewal
Once known as Bet Me, our noble Arabian, Betters, has a tale that starts in the racing fields of Wyoming. This former racehorse, now a dignified 28-year-old, carries the wisdom and scars of a life that’s been anything but ordinary.
Betters’ journey took a dramatic turn when he was seized by law enforcement during a harrowing crime investigation involving his previous caretakers. The charges? Murder and illegal meth production. Found in conditions that broke hearts, Betters was more than just underweight; he was fighting for his life.
Thanks to the swift action of the authorities and the compassion of animal rescue operations, Betters found a new chance at life at Pam’s Place Animal Sanctuary. Here, amidst the rolling pastures and gentle care of the sanctuary staff, he began to transform.
The transformation wasn’t overnight. It took months of careful feeding, veterinary care, and the kind of love that only patience can nurture. But thrive he did. Today, Betters is a testament to the strength and resilience that animals show, even in the face of past neglect.
At Pam’s Place, Betters has become a favorite among visitors, his gentle eyes and cautious demeanor a living storybook of survival and hope. He gets more and more trusting everyday. He reminds us all that with a little help and a lot of heart, new beginnings are always possible.
Come visit Betters and see for yourself how far hope and determination can take a soul, no matter how weary. His story is one of many here, but each is a testament to the sanctuary’s mission: Rescue, Recover, Rejoice.
In Memory of Ron
Ron Kinchelow was a loyal friend and a man with a deep love for horses. Though he may not have been a professional horseman, his connection to horses—especially Kah Ching—was something special. Ron got Kah Ching in September 2022, and she quickly became part of his world.
Beyond his love for horses, Ron's true legacy was in his dedication to helping others in their recovery journeys. His passion for supporting those in recovery, just as he did for himself, will be remembered by the many lives he touched.
When Ron passed in February 2024, Kah Ching became a cherished member of the rescue, ensuring she would always be safe and well cared for—just as Ron would have wanted.
